The Rctor of the University of El Oued opens the South’s symposium on “Learning Poverty.”
Today, December 4, 2023, the Rector of the University of Echahid Hamma Lakhdar, Professor Omar Farhati, opened the South Symposium on “Learning Poverty,” which lasts one day . It is organized remotely and via Zoom technology by the Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis Laboratory in partnership with the Supreme Council of the Arabic Language and the Ministry of National Education.
Several academic and scientific personalities participated in the symposium, with interventions on the topic of the symposium, and the participation of two members of the Supreme Council for the Arabic Language, namely the Dean of the Faculty of Literature and Languages, Professor Dalal Oushan, and Professor Bachir Manai, Vice Rector of the University for Pedagogy.
When announcing the official opening of this event, the University Rector expressed his happiness at the university’s organization of this important symposium, thanking the Dean of the Faculty, in her capacity as director of the laboratory, along with her supervisors, for this scientific and educational initiative. He also praised the role of the Arabic language, which, as he said, will become, in the period from 2050 to 2070, one of the first languages spoken by the world’s population. In this regard, he pointed to the role of the Faculty in teaching the Arabic language to non-native speakers, especially international students from Malaysia, Uzbekistan, and soon other foreign countries, praising the role of the President of the Republic and the highest authorities of the state in giving great importance to encouraging such important activities and supporting the higher education sector and the education sector and developing them.
For his part, the President of the Supreme Council for the Arabic Language, Mr. Saleh Belaid, highlighted in his speech the problem of educational poverty that threatens the progress of societies, especially in developing countries, where many of their students suffer – as he said – from a clear weakness in reading and writing, especially students under the age of ten. In this regard, he called for developing educational and learning strategies and plans that take consideration the intellectual and cultural references and the various transformations in technology and digitalization.
According to the Deputy Dean of the Faculty for Postgraduate Studies, Professor Youssef Al-Ayeb, who participated in the scientific meeting, the symposium presented for discussion about 25 scientific interventions that addressed the problem raised about learning poverty. The interventions were distributed across four axes: the importance of hearing and repeating the Qur’an at pre-school age in Facilitating language, reading and fluency, linguistic disorders and difficulty reading and writing, proposing treatment methods, investing in the manufacture of language baths, as well as organizing reading festivals (Algeria Reads).
