The International Scientific Forum on the Economics of Desert Agriculture in Algeria, Obstacles, Opportunities and Prospects for El-Oued University
The Wali of of El-Oued Akhrouf El-Said inaugurated the International Forum on the Economics of Desert Agriculture in Algeria, Obstacles, Opportunities and Prospects, organized by the Faculty of Economic, Commercial and Management Sciences of the University of Echahid Hamma Lakhdar in El-Oued, at the Golden Gazelle Complex, which will last on December 12 and 13, 2022, in coordination with the International Salon of Desert Agriculture, Agrou Souf. And under the supervision of the Rector of El Oued University, Professor Omar Farhati, the honorary president of the forum and the dean of the Faculty of Economic, Commercial and Management Sciences. The forum is headed by Dr. Bella Bassi Zakaria, with the participation of professors from inside and outside the country.
The Rector of the University, Prof. Omar Farhati, welcomed the attendees. He also thanked the contributors to this forum, stressing the strength of the will of the Soufi man who obeyed nature and conquered the sands to be an important figure in the food security process nationally. We even hope that it will be international. He explained that Echahid Hamma Lakhdar University, with all its professors and researchers, is open on its economic and agricultural surroundings in order to advance our region and provide food security for our country, Algeria. He focused on the importance of benefiting from the experiences of teachers and using them in the agricultural field. For his part, the chairman of the forum, Dr. Bella Bassi Zakaria presented the subject of the forum which is about the saharien crops, its characteristics, potentials and opportunities , and the role of sustainable local development in promoting saharien agriculture, the role of support agencies and accompanying institutions in promoting sustainable saharien agriculture in removing all obstacles and the policies , mechanisms for reducing the problems and obstacles that face saharien agriculture and finaly, the strategy for promoting desert crops using regional and global experiences.
In his welcoming speech , Mr. Wali of El Oued, thanked the Rector of the University, the Honorary President and all the staff of the International Forum, stressing the development of the agricultural side and modernizing it to announce the official opening of the activities of the forum.
In an initiative of the body supervising the forum, Mr. Wali of El Oued, Mr. President of the State People’s Assembly, and Mr. Rector of El Oued University were honored for their contribution to organizing the forum.
It is to mention taht the opening intervention was presented by the Director of the Agricultural Departments of the Wilay of El Oued, where he highlighted the importance of the agricultural sector, emphasizing the diversity in production, which is distributed over four agricultural poles, the most important of which is the pole of vegetable production, especially the potato crop, as well as the pole of industrial cultivation and the pole palm cultivations and the last pole for livestock grazing in the desert. He explained how El Oued has turned into a model in the field of production, transformation and export of crops and products.
According to the organizing body of the forum, about 84 interventions were programmed by professors and researchers.
