Elchahid Hamma Lakhdar University – El Oued – commemorates the demonstrations and massacres of May 8, 1945
Within the framework of the cultural and scientific activities of the student organizations of the University of Echahid Hamma Lakhdar and in coordination with the Sub-Directorate of Activities, the Directorate of Mujahideen, the Directorate of Youth and Sports and the Directorate of Culture, today, May 4, 2023, El-Oued University and under the supervision of the Rector of the University, Professor Omar Farhati, represented by the General Union of Algerian Students, commemorated the demonstrations and massacres of May 8 1945 in the Mediatic Hall, in the presence of the Vice Rector of the University in charge of Pedagogy, Professor Bachir Mannai, the Vice President of the State People’s Assembly, Fares Belbasi, and the supervision of Professor Qassiba Rachid, the Dean of the Faculty of Exact Sciences, Professor Abdelouahab Mansour, the University’s media and communication officer, Dr. Raguig Abdallah, and Omar Lamouchi, and a group of university students and members of the student organization.
In his opening speech, the Vice Rector of the University thanked the attendees and appreciated the activity of the student organization and all the organizations and students of El Oued University to commemorate the memory and highlight the sacrifices of the martyrs in order to enjoy independence and freedom. In his speech, the Vice President of the State Council focused on the role of students and youth in preserving Algeria, the homeland and the nation. They sanctify the sacrifices of the Algerians with their knowledge, diligence, service of the homeland and its preservation, valuing this important activity in our national memory. Professor Rachid Kosiba gave a historical lecture in which he highlighted the brutality of the French colonialists and oppressors in dealing with a defenseless people who wanted to win their independence like other peoples, but the response was murder and massacres May 8, 1945. It exceeded 80,000 martyrs, and the professor concluded in his lecture and the importance of these events and that the historical memory of the homeland is carried by its sons in their conscience and their scientific and cultural life.
The event program, which lasts for two days, includes many activities:
A visit to the Moudjahid Museum, accompanied by students, in the morning, and organizing scientific sessions and meetings in various university residences, supervised by the state executive office.
Organizing scientific meetings in the presence of militants of the General Union of Algerian Students, the participation of all university students, the involvement of the Directorate of Moudjahideen, honoring a number of the moujahideen, and organizing a historical exhibition.
At the end of the event, the president and members of the General Union of Algerian Students presented honors to all contributors and participants.
