Today, March 21, 2023, Echahid Hamma Lakhdar University in El Oued inaugurated the Botanical Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Natural and Life Sciences.

The Secretary-General of the Wilaya, accompanied by the Rector of the University and accompanied by the Governor of Forests, inaugurated the Garden of Scientific Botanical Experiments which is located opposite the central administration of the University.

The inauguration process was also attended by the Vice Rectors of the university, the secretary-general of the university, the president of the El Oued municipality, the Wilaya secretary of the merchants union, economic dealers, executives of the forest governorate, professors from the Faculty of Nature and Life, and those concerned with the subject of the garden.

According to the technical card of the project, the botanical experiment garden falls within the framework of completing the equipment of the Faculty of Natural and Life Sciences after the project witnessed a process of rehabilitation with modern smart equipment through which many experiments in the agricultural field can be carried out, as well as contributing to achieving local self-sufficiency in production Seedlings of different varieties.

The inaugurated botanical garden is divided into three sections: the protected cultivation section in greenhouses, the open cultivation section, and the nursery section, with a production capacity of 30,000 trees annually. The automatic watering process is based on the waterbox system, which is a watering system that guarantees the young tree moisture for a considerable period of time. This system also has automatic control rooms for intelligent control of the strength and volume of water flow, which enables rationalization of fertilization and water resources exploited for irrigation.

On the other hand, and within the framework of expanding the forestry scientific projects of the University of the El Oued, a new project similar to the completion of an important experimental farm is expected to be launched this year, with a financial envelope estimated at seven billion centimes. According to the technical card of the programmed project for this agricultural experiment farm; The project includes many agricultural fields, including: smart crops with pivot spraying, smart crops inside air-conditioned houses, smart crops by distillation, hydroponics, fruit tree cultivation, medicinal plant cultivation, protection of plants threatened with extinction, as well as the field of improving the production of seeds and seedlings, in addition to an environmental museum that includes different types of plants and trees.

The university stated that these fields and agricultural disciplines of the garden are at the disposal of the various specialized actors and all the institutions of the agricultural and forestry sector in the Wilaya .
